New Water and Solvent-Based Coatings Released to Help Inhibit Corrosion
There are more ways than one to preventing corrosion – and multiple formulations may be needed to address a range of requirements. Birchwood Technologies says that it offers water and solvent-based corrosion inhibitors, and that the choice of product will depend on the need for lubricity, dryness, and visual appeal. The company offers variations on the theme that will cover aspects such as the specific type of metal in question, the required durability of the coating, and the conditions components will be exposed to when not in use.
According to the company, the water-based formulations will protect surfaces from salt spray for 24 to 72 hours while the solvent-based product range offers 48-120 hours of protection. These coatings will assist manufacturers to keep parts corrosion-free during processing, warehousing and shipment. In both instances, oily and dry options are available. The water based range offers satin-gloss and high-gloss options, and the solvent-based range includes a self-healing, waxy film coating. All the product ranges include high-flash-point, low VOC options when stringent fire safety and air quality requirements must be met.
