Dow at K 2013: Introduces ROBOND L-188/CR3A, a Water-based Adhesive and more

DuSSELDOLF, GERMANY -- The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) showcases its broad portfolio of innovative solutions at the largest global gathering of the plastics and rubber industry at K 2013 in DuSSELDOLF . Under the Dow Performance Plastics group, Packaging and Specialty Plastics introduces a new water-based adhesive ROBOND L-188/CR3A and showcases the extension of water-based adhesive ROBOND L-168/CR3A into more medium performance applications. They are currently only available in Asia.

In line with the theme "Solutionism at K" to highlight the new levels of innovation at Dow, the water-based adhesives products also reflect the companys drive towards sustainable packaging and environmentally friendly solutions. By moving again from traditional solvent-based technology to a water-based one, the result is a solution that is environmentally conscious and enhances food safety, with reduced possibility of leakage and scrap rate during transportation and storage. Both ROBOND L-188/CR3A and ROBOND L-168/CR3A are two-component water-based adhesives that are able to replace solvent-based adhesive in laminating high-slip polyethylene structures.

Dow water-based adhesives are suitable for a wide range of medium performance applications and are used mainly in flexible packaging for food and specialty packaging such as frozen food, wet pack and sausage packaging.

New water-based adhesive ROBOND L-188/CR3A

The latest adhesive ROBOND L-188/CR3A developed by Dow is designed specifically for applications requiring a stable and balanced coefficient of friction (COF). Exhibiting COF performance during curing, ROBOND L-188/CR3A enables the final laminates to be run on vertical foil fill seal (VFFS) machines at desired packaging speed. The improved performance from stabilizing the COF of high slip Polyethylene (PE) film also allows the maintenance of the performance of other laminates and eliminated solvent emission during the process.

Extending the reach into medium performance applications with ROBOND L-168/CR3A

Suitable for a wide range of structures including Biaxial Orientated Polypropylene (BOPP) / Cast Polypropylene (CPP) BOPP / PE andPolyamide (PA) / PE laminates, the two-component water-based adhesive ROBOND L-168/CR3A is created specifically to improve the performance of packaging of flexibility under low temperatures or stretching conditions.
