Saint-Gobain at Paris Air-Show: to Showcase OmniSeal, OmniLipand more

GARDEN GROVE, CALIFORNIA -- At the upcoming Paris Air Show at the Le Bourget Exhibition Centre from June 17-23, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics, Seals Group, will be exhibiting their dynamic sealing and wear & friction products and demonstrating how aerospace companies can control their operating and maintenance costs by using their products, which have been developed as a result of the Seals Groups experience in the aerospace industry since 1955. This year, the Seals Group will be exhibiting in Hall 2B, Booth #E126, along with other Saint-Gobain business units: Aerospace and Process Systems MG Silikon composites group.

Their innovative sealing product lines, OmniSeal and OmniLip, offer static and dynamic sealing solutions with superior sealing performance in both very low and high temperature application conditions. Their innovative polymer product line, Meldin 7000 series thermoset polyimide grades, offer wear & friction component solutions for continuous high temperature conditions of 315°C and excursions to beyond this temperature. Their OmniShield spring products offer excellent EMI/RFI shielding under extreme service conditions.

Due to aerospace fuel costs rising at double-digit rates, fuel efficiency and weight savings are key factors for companies to control their operational costs. This dilemma is mitigated by using Meldin, OmniSeal and OmniLipproducts, which are lightweight polymeric components that have high temperature operating capabilities, enabling them to be used in places where metallic components have been used or where elastomeric components cannot survive.

Saint-Gobain Seals Group has been providing engineered solutions to aerospace applications ranging from jet engines, flight controls, avionics, to launch vehicles and satellites for over 50 years. Their partnership with the space shuttle program started in 1981 until 2011 where 132 shuttle missions were launched into space using their OmniSeal spring-energized seals in 25 critical applications involving the main engine, life support systems and hypergolic fuels. More recently, the Falcon 9 rocket, which carried the Dragon space vehicle to the International Space Station, utilized spring-energized seals as well as Meldin 7000 piston guide rings, bushings, bearings and other components in its nine Merlin engines and thrusters. The Atlas V launch vehicle that launched the Curiosity Mars Rover also included over 60 OmniSeal spring-energized seals in its engine. Curiosity itself used the Seals Groups Rulon material for ball bearings in the robotic arms and drilling for surface removal tools.
