Vehicle construction: secure bonding to new coatings

The development of new coatings in the automotive sector is advancing steadily. Today, the customer places ever more importance on the scratch-proof and dirt-repellent surface of the cars bodywork. With the use of these new coatings, the polarity of the surfaces changes, presenting manufacturers of adhesive systems with a huge challenge. This is because chemical changes to the surface of coatings inevitably affect the adhesion of the bonded composite in automobile exteriors. The acrylic adhesive tapes from the DuploCOLL NP range consist of a foam carrier and a special acrylic adhesive mass. The adhesive tapes immediately develop an outstanding tack, particularly on modern dirt-repellent and scratch-resistant coating systems, and offer excellent performance concerning peel and shear forces in the final bonding as well. The recently developed adhesive chemistry plays the decisive role in this special application. In addition, the foam carrier used has significant advantages to offer. Because as opposed to hard, foamed systems, it is extremely compressible and elastic, which results in perfect adaptation of the adhesive tape to surfaces, and compensates for different expansion coefficients in joints.

Another advantage of the new generation of adhesive tapes: this product range gets by without additional liners, as the edges of the adhesive tapes are non-adhesive and therefore do not contaminate either. This not only simplifies the manufacturing process, the Lohmann product range also accommodates for the increasingly important aspect of sustainability.

Furthermore, the adhesive tapes maintain their excellent performance even under extreme stress such as degradation, weather and temperature influences. They are resistant to the effects of chemicals and solvents. The new DuploCOLL NP adhesive tapes can be used for applications such as bonding of sill sheeting or door covers. The "Made in Germany" adhesive tapes are produced as spools, rollers and as die-cut parts that are individually tailored to the customers wishes.
